About the Centre
Combined Studies is an administrative unit not a teaching department. Since Combined Studies students are taught in such a large number of Schools, it is particularly important that help and advice should be readily available to them. Therefore, overall responsibility for the academic progress and the general well-being of students is assumed by the Director of Combined Studies, who is available every day to see students in the Combined Studies Centre. It is important too that students should have the opportunity to meet socially so there is a Combined Studies Society run by and for the students which organizes meetings, parties, outings, theatre visits, sporting encounters and other events with social interaction as the general objective. The Society is particularly useful in bringing together students from different years.
The centre has a peer mentoring scheme whereby all first year students have the opportunity of help and advice from second and third year students.
