Course Guide
Fourteen subject areas are listed on the Areas of Study page. Some course units appear in more than one Area of Study; this is due to the interdisciplinary nature of that course unit.
Each Area of Study has a list of course units available to Combined Studies students in each year / level of their study. You must complete 3 x 120 credits in order to take your degree.
Each entry in the lists consists of a course unit code, for example, PHIL10231. The four letters identify the discipline in which the course unit is taught (PHIL = Philosophy; ENGL = English literature, FREN = French, etc).
Each course unit has a five-digit code.
- If the code ends in the number 0, it signifies that the course unit is taught over BOTH semesters.
- If the code ends in a 1, it signifies that the course unit is taught in the FIRST semester only.
- If the code ends in a 2, it signifies that the course units is taught in the SECOND semester only.
You should try to ensure that your course is reasonably balanced between the two semesters.
You should also ensure that you successfully complete a minimum of 40 credits in each Area of Study.
When selecting course units, be sure to check for pre-requisites and co-requisites; plan your degree by checking the lists for all three levels within your chosen Areas of Study. Also, some Semester 1 courses are pre-requisites for Semester 2 courses. Beware too that some course units have a specific A-level pre-requisite which is not required for the course as a whole.
