About our Courses

Students can choose from 14 study areas

The Combined Studies Centre at The University of Manchester offers something rare in British universities: an honours degree programme based in the Faculty of Humanities but allowing opportunities for study in other Faculties.

The Combined Studies Centre offers around 90 programmes of study allowing the opportunity to gain an honours degree combining together two of fourteen study areas. Most study areas contain a core subject (eg. English, History, Philosophy, a language, a social science, Film Studies) together with course units from related disciplines.

The programmes offered are structured but flexible allowing a student to develop unique pathways through each of the study areas. This allows the acquisition of a range of skills and knowledge that is sought after by both students and employees alike.

The programmes are demanding as all students are taught and assessed on the same course units as those taken by single honours students in each discipline. The standards achieved by our graduates are high, making the courses very popular with students and very well respected by employers.
