Built and Natural Environment

2 students taking field notes
Students develop a broad appreciation of environmental management

This study area brings together course units that allow insight into the evolution and structuring of the built and natural environments. Aspects include the appreciation of the nature and effects of the physical processes operating in the natural environment as well as assessment of the impact of human activities. Thus course units allow study of processes and systems in the physical environment together with urban perceptions. Disciplines contributing to this area are Geography, Town and Country Planning and Earth Sciences.

The study area spans the divide between arts and sciences, developing a broad but structured understanding of the global environment. Many of the course units offered have practical underpinnings and allow the student to appreciate the local as well as the more global problems of environmental management.

There are no specific requirements although an A-level or equivalent in Geography or related discipline would be an advantage.
