Socially responsible graduates: Ibrahim’s story

(15 April 2016)

Ibrahim Olabi, who studied at the School of Law for both an LLB degree and LLM (Security and International Law) master’s degree, has talked more about his time at Manchester in a video interview. He founded the Syrian Legal Development Programme (SLDP) in 2013, while still an undergraduate, in recognition for which he was previously named the Faculty of Humanities Postgraduate Student of the Year in the University’s Distinguished Achievement Awards.

Ibrahim’s organisation operates as a non-aligned, non-governmental organisation working in non-state controlled areas of Syria, delivered by a team of researchers, lawyers, on-the-ground trainers and human rights advocates. It was his time at Manchester that helped him develop the knowledge and networks necessary to supply this training and legal advice to those in need in such challenging circumstances.
