Deadlines for University awards

There are a number of deadlines around this time of year for various awards given out by the University. To clarify what the different awards are for, and when you need to submit nominations by, we have produced a clear guide below to some of the main awards.

Distinguished Achievement Awards 2015/16:

What are they?

The University’s Distinguished Achievement Awards are awarded annually and nominations are accepted in the following categories:

  • Teacher of the Year
  • Researcher of the Year
  • Undergraduate Student of the Year
  • Postgraduate Research (PGR) Student of the Year
  • Postgraduate Taught (PGT) Student of the Year
  • PSS Members and PSS Team Awards

What is the deadline?

The deadline for Schools to submit their agreed nominations for the DAAs is 5pm on Monday, 14 December. Please see below the contacts for this:

The winners will be announced in late April 2016.

Please note: The Postgraduate Taught (PGT) Student of the Year award is held at different time of the year to co-ordinate with the December graduations. Submissions for this category were received during October and the winner was announced in the Humanities eNews.

Teaching Excellence Awards 2015/16:

What are they?

The University’s Teaching Excellence Awards are separate to the Distinguished Achievement Awards and focus on achievement in relation to teaching, learning and the student experience over recent years. The Award consists of a £5,000 grant to be used by recipients to develop teaching and learning activities or to support their own career development in this area. The period of award is three years. The University makes around six awards annually and may also issue commendations at the discretion of the decision panel. The Faculty of Humanities can put forward a maximum of five nominations.

What is the deadline?

All submissions from Schools should be sent to Emma Rose by Friday, 26 February 2016. Please check if there is an earlier deadline for submitting your nomination to your School for consideration. The institutional deadline for Faculties to submit their nominations is Monday, 14 March 2016.

Winners will be announced in mid-April 2016.

Other awards:

  • You will be aware that the University’s 2015/16 Making a Difference Awards have also been launched this month, with a deadline of Monday, 1 February 2016. The Making a Difference Awards recognise and celebrate the many different types of social responsibility achievements of the University’s academic and professional support staff, students and alumni.
  • The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme is an external awards process which celebrates excellent practice and outstanding achievement in learning and teaching in higher education. Faculty nominations have already been submitted for this year and nominees will receive feedback once the outcomes of the University considerations have been announced.
