New Head of SALC named as a member of the Academia Europaea

Following an extensive peer evaluation process, Professor Alessandro Schiesaro joined a select number of international scholars from across the continent of Europe in being invited to become a member of the Academia Europaea.
The Council of the Academia Europaea confirmed the election of new members to the four classes of humanities, social and related sciences, exact sciences, and life sciences. Alessandro was invited as a new member in the Classics and Oriental Studies section of the humanities category.
The Academia Europaea (formed in 1988) is the pan-European academy of science, humanities and letters, with a membership of over 3500 eminent scholars, drawn from all countries of Europe, and all disciplines, nationalities and geographical locations. Its members are scientists and scholars who collectively aim to promote learning, education and research.
Alessandro joined the University as Head of the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures on 1 July 2016.
