Karl Hennermann of SEED wins Staff Volunteer of the Year
(29 May 2015)
Karl Hennermann, from the School of Environment, Education and Development (SEED), has been awarded the University’s Staff Volunteer of the Year award.
Karl volunteers for MapAction, a non-governmental organisation that delivers vital information in mapped form, from data gathered at disaster scenes, which is crucial for delivering aid to the right place, quickly. Since joining MapAction in 2010, he has helped people displaced by war in South Sudan, others hit by tropical storms in the Philippines and flood victims in Paraguay.
Jonny Douch, Operations Director at MapAction, described Karl as ‘a tremendous asset’, and added: “His willingness to deploy at short notice is second to none…with little hesitation for his own discomfort.”
