Professor Dan Rigby appointed to the FSA
(11 June 2015)
Professor Dan Rigby, Lecturer in Environmental Economics in the School of Social Sciences (SoSS), has been appointed as an Expert Member of the Food Standards Agency’s (FSA) Social Science Research Committee. He has been appointed for an initial three year term which will run to March 2018.
The Committee provides advice to the Agency about how it gathers and uses social science evidence.
Dan said: “The establishment of the FSA’s Social Science Research Committee in 2008 helped to strengthen the Agency’s access to external social science expertise and develop its capacity for social science research.
“The Social Sciences have a crucial role to play, alongside other disciplines such as Microbiology and Epidemiology, in helping to ensure that food is safe to eat and that regulation and enforcement are appropriately designed.
“The importance of the Social Sciences reflects the need to understand the behaviour of people, as well as pathogens, when we try to reduce the burden of foodborne disease.”
