Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research is launched
(29 October 2014)
The Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research (CMIST) will be launched tonight following the merger of two research centres within SOSS. The new Institute brings together the Cathie Marsh Centre for Census and Survey Research (CCSR) and the Institute for Social Change (ISC) under the directorship of Tarani Chadola.
To coincide with the launch of CMIST, the centre is launching a new website which contains 10 years’ worth of fascinating papers including surveys on British attitudes on climate change, employment transitions of UK mothers, and socialising in later life.
CMIST will address social, economic and political questions through research on advanced quantitative methods, social inequalities, social identity and civic engagement.
CMIST will also be hosting two events in November to celebrate this:
- A launch event tonight with an informal drinks reception from 5pm. Preceding this event there will be a methods@manchester workshop; "Showcasing Research in Survey Methods and Statistical Modelling".
- A lecture celebrating the work of Cathie Marsh will be held at the Royal Statistical Society on Thursday, 13 November at 5pm entitled "Anonymisation - are the data we release safe".
