Library re-development plans announced

(29 October 2015)

The Library has recently announced its redevelopment plans, scheduled to begin in the summer of 2016. The three-year, £36 million project, will address significant long-term maintenance aspects of the building fabric as well as transforming the Library’s public spaces, significantly improving the internal environment and creating a world-class library facility.

The work will be completed in three phases:

Phase 1 (2016/2017) – Rear Blue

Phase 2 (2017/2018) – Front Blue

Phase 3 (2018/2019) – Historic Areas

The redeveloped library will include a new café and entrance area as well as a brand new landscaped courtyard. Heating and ventilation will be improved with an emphasis on natural light and improved WC facilities. To improve the student experience there will be flexible individual study spaces, more group study spaces and easier access to books and resources. There will also be a power device for charging at each study desk and WiFi throughout.
