New sketcher in residence for the Morgan Centre
(2 October 2015)
Urban Sketcher, Lynne Chapman, is joining the Morgan Centre for Research into Everyday Lives as their Artist in Residence. Her residency will begin this month and will coincide with the tenth anniversary of the Centre, which sits within the School of Social Sciences. Lynne will be documenting the process of sociological research, from the Arthur Lewis Building offices to fieldwork in homes and even the moors of the Calder Valley.
As well as the documentary aspect of the residency, Lynne will be collaborating with Morgan Centre staff on an experiment to investigate how sketching can enrich sociological research. Together they will explore the differences and similarities between observational sketching and the sociological research process, from selecting a subject, interpreting the world around us, and sharing knowledge.
