Dr Peter Backus named 'Best New Lecturer'
(2 October 2015)
Dr Peter Backus, from the School of Social Sciences, has been awarded 'Best New Lecturer' by The Economics Network. Peter, who has been at the University for less than three years, is the course leader on The UK Economy – Microeconomics, Applied Economics and Applied Economics Dissertation course units.
The award is designed to recognise individuals who have been in a lecturing post for three years or less and who engage and disseminate their work to the economics community both within and outside their institution. He was nominated due to the way that he inspires and encourages students’ interest through his teaching of these modules.
Professor Martyn Andrews, Head of Economics, commented: “The criteria indicated that the successful candidate 'should show promise of a significant contribution to economics education’. Peter’s case was based on an exceptional enthusiasm for teaching Economics so that students find it interesting and relevant, both inside the lecture theatre and in organising extra events.”
