Peter Pormann writes for Nature
(2 October 2015)
Professor Peter Pormann, Director of the John Rylands Research Institute, has appeared in a recent issue of Nature detailing the way the Institute is using technology. In his piece Prof Pormann discusses the revelations a meshing of technology and humanities can yield, particularly in relation to ancient objects.
The article details the £1 million image-analysis the Institute is currently undertaking into the Syriac Galen Palimpsest. The project, funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), grew out of a collaboration with the Centre for Heritage Imaging and Collection Care at the University.
The article appeared in the 17 September edition of Nature, the international weekly journal of science, and highlights the importance of the cross-disciplinary work taking place at the University.
