Supporters of the Faculty receive honorary degree on Foundation Day

(20 October 2016)

At Wednesday’s Foundation Day celebrations Winnie Byanyima, who earlier this year launched our Global Development Institute, received an honorary degree from the University. Winnie, who is Executive Director of Oxfam International and an alumna of the University, gave a Foundation Lecture entitled ‘Advancing Women’s Rights in an Unequal World: A personal perspective’, in which she outlined some of the experiences of her unique career in politics and international development.

Also receiving an honorary degree was Lord David Alliance who, in 2015, agreed to make a landmark donation of £15 million to Manchester Business School (MBS), to be invested in the School’s new building and to drive its research agenda forward. In recognition of Lord Alliance’s longstanding support for MBS and the University, the Business School was renamed ‘the Alliance Manchester Business School’.
