School of Social Sciences colleague becomes new Chair of the PSA
(9 February 2017)
Earlier this month the Political Studies Association of the UK (PSA) announced that Professor Angelia Wilson, School of Social Sciences, will lead the Association into its next phase.
The Association said that Angelia brings a wealth of academic, professional and organisational leadership skills to the role, having served on the American Political Studies Association (APSA) Council and the PSA Executive Council. She is a leading scholar and pioneer in the field of sexuality and politics, and is widely respected in the field of American politics.
On being appointed Angelia said: “I am delighted for this opportunity to work with the Executive Committee and wider membership to lead the PSA as a dynamic professional network of researchers and an active advocate of civic engagement and knowledge transfer for all those interested in the study of politics.
“Over the past three years, Matt Flinders as Chair, the Executive Committee, PSA staff and members of the Chair’s Commissions have brought innovation, vision and new direction to the PSA. I hope to bring energy, determination and focus to harness that vision and continue to grow the PSA as a modern, effective, financially sustainable, learned society.”
Angelia, and the new Vice-Chair-elect Professor Feargal Cochrane of the University of Kent, will be introduced to the PSA at its Annual Conference in Glasgow in April 2017.
