SoSS colleague wins book award
(13 April 2017)
Professor Hilary Pilkington, School of Social Sciences, has won the BBC Radio 4 Thinking Allowed Ethnography Prize for her book ‘Loud and Proud’ which is based on her research investigating supporters of the English Defence League. Hilary reflects on the gap between the movement’s public image and activists’ understandings of what they do.
The annual award is made for a study that has made a significant contribution to ethnography: the in-depth, descriptive analysis of the life of a culture or sub-culture. The award has been running since 2014, and is decided by a panel of four academic judges.
