Work and Equalities Institute formed
(12 May 2017)
Earlier this week the Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS) confirmed that two of its research centres, the European Work and Employment Research Centre (EWERC) and the Fairness at Work Research Centre (FairWRC), both based in People, Management and Organisations (PMO) Division, will merge and become the Work and Equalities Institute.
The new Institute will build upon the excellent track records and complementary expertise of the two centres to develop new interdisciplinary approaches to addressing core policy and intellectual challenges across work, employment and equalities. It will support four key themes: business transformation and work futures, fair treatment at work, inequalities and the life course, and regulation and representation.
AMBS will formally appoint a Director in June, with the Institute launching internally in September. There will then be a high profile launch event in 2018.
Professor Colette Fagan, Vice-Dean for Research and Deputy Dean, said: “Over many years the employment expertise from these two merging centres has informed the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the United Nations’ International Labour Office, as well as national organisations such as the Equality and Human Rights Commission. They also have an excellent track record of PGR supervision and launching early career researchers onto successful careers as academics or researchers and policy makers in other sectors.
"I am confident that our new Institute will build on the strengths of these foundations, and will make a significant impact to knowledge and policy solutions in relation to the quality, organisation, innovation, and fair distribution of work and employment.”
