ESRC Festival of Social Science returns to Manchester
(6 October 2017)
We are working with Manchester Metropolitan University and Salford University to team up with museums, galleries and community groups to celebrate the importance of social science research to our everyday lives. The Manchester Festival of Social Science takes place from the 4 – 11 November and includes over 40 exciting and engaging events taking place in venues across the city.
The ESRC Festival of Social Science is an eclectic blend of activities including discussions and debates, exhibitions, film screenings, walkabouts, family fun days, schools visits, workshops, and lots more.
The Manchester Festival is the result of collaboration between the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), The University of Manchester, the University of Salford and Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2016 almost 3,000 people attended 40 events and the Festival gathered national media attention, reaching an estimated three million people through features in The Guardian and The Sun.
From imagining later life to producing community radio, exploring ‘street’ culture to valuing nature, the 2017 Manchester Festival will provide an insight into the many ways in which social science research contributes to social, economic and political life across the city, region and beyond.
