A first for UK higher education - leading the way in IT security
(14 December 2017)
Last month the University of Manchester became the first HE institution in the UK to introduce 2-factor authentication as part of the IT login process. Desktop email is currently protected in this way, with other services to be added in time.
This is a huge achievement and IT Services’ ‘Come fly with us’ communications campaign resulted in over 16,300 people signing up to the service ahead of the change.
The next phase of work will look to protect email accessed via the Outlook Web App with 2-factor authentication. This is likely to take place early in 2018, after the January exams.
