Humanities staff recognised in the Queen's New Year Honours List

Two Humanities colleagues have been honoured by the Queen in the 2018 New Year’s Honours list.
Professor Diane Coyle has been made CBE for her services to Economics and the Public Understanding of Economics. She is author of several books and was previously Vice Chair of the BBC Trust (to April 2015), a member of the Migration Advisory Committee (2007-2012) and the Competition Commission (2001-2009).
Honorary Professor Vikas Shah, of Alliance Manchester Business School, has been made an MBE. He is a multi-award winning entrepreneur. His senior positions include CEO of film company Fifty Three Degrees North, and managing director of leading commodities and textiles trader Swiscot Group.
Three other University of Manchester staff members were recognised this year, all from the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health:
- Professor Caroline Dive was made CBE for her services to cancer research;
- Professor Chris Griffiths received the OBE for his contribution to dermatology;
- Professor Pippa Tyrell received the MBE for her services to stroke medicine and care.
