For action: data protection training

(1 March 2018)

Please can all staff, academic and professional support services, be aware that data protection training is a mandatory, and needs to be completed every two years. As you will have read in the Message from the Dean, there is a significant number of Humanities colleagues who have not completed the online training within the past two years and colleagues are reminded that completion is urgently required.

The aim of the course is to provide a basic understanding of the Data Protection Act 1998 so that we can exercise our responsibility for protecting the rights and privacy of individuals when handling personal data.

This training is one of the key planks in the University’s programme of compliance for the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force on 25 May 2018, and is essential for safeguarding not only the University but also individuals themselves.
