(1 March 2018)
In the lead up to International Women's Day on 8 March, Humanities is encouraging academic and PSS colleagues across the University to tweet women-related content with the hashtag #UoMwomen and other relevant external hashtags such as #IWD18 and #PressForProgress.
Please get involved on social media and share any images, blogs or links to papers celebrating women, feminism or demonstrating women against inequalities.
Work on the campaign began on 6 February when the UK celebrated 100 years of the vote for all men over 21 and some women over 30. Since then we have published:
• current academics and PSS staff talking in videos about Christabel Pankhurst;
• staff, students and attendees at the School of Law Pankhurst Lecture holding up Votes for Women posters and sharing their views;
• a video from Colette Fagan talking about the Pankhurst Lecture and the #UoMwomen campaign and her gender research.
On International Women’s Day you will see a video shared via @officialUoM featuring our President and Vice-Chancellor referring to previous and current strong Manchester women such as Maxine Peake, Marie Stopes and more. Please retweet and share. Meanwhile, individual institutes, schools and departments are encouraged to use the hashtags #UoMwomen and #IWD18 on 8 March to share photos and stories of themselves, and their women and female-related research. Colleagues can download a #UoMwomen poster which they can write on and pose with for Twitter.
