New University Policy on Academic Advising
(19 June 2015)
The University has introduced a Policy on Advising Taught Students and associated Guidance on Advising (approved by Senate in April 2015), for implementation from September 2015.
An Advising Toolkit has also been produced which is a signposting tool to assist Advisors in their role, and which underpins the Policy on Advising Taught Students. The Toolkit will be updated on an ongoing basis, and suggestions for additions or examples of good practice will be warmly welcomed (please email: firstname.lastname@example.org). The Toolkit is available at:
The above information can also be found on the TLSO website.
The Policy includes a responsibility for academic advisers to help support their students’ to develop their employability. Dr. Andrew Balmer from the School of Social Sciences is involved in a HEA-funded project to develop a model for helping academic advisers to assist students with this. You can read more about this in Teaching Ideas.
