Dr Ian Fairweather

Researcher Development Manager

Ian has a PhD in Social Anthropology from The University of Manchester and has studied religion and the heritage industry in Africa. He has conducted fieldwork in Namibia and supervised PhD students working on museums and material culture, the tourism and heritage industries, religious belief and expression.

Current work

Ian oversees the training and development opportunities provided to Researchers within the Faculty of Humanities. His philosophy is that researcher development is about developing a vibrant research culture in the faculty as well as enabling researchers to achieve their individual potential.

For that reason Ian supports the development of research communities, networks  and researcher led initiatives as well as designing and delivering specific training programmes and providing online support through the Researcher Development website and social media.

He works closely with methods@manchester and artsmethods@manchester to ensure researchers have access to a broad range of training and development opportunities. Ian can also offer 1:1 coaching on specific issues.
