When you become a postgraduate researcher in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Manchester, you are joining a community of over 1000 doctoral students from over 100 different countries who are working in subject areas as diverse as Politics, Persian, Medieval History or Modern Management. There are around fifty different fields and sub-fields represented in the Faculty of Humanities. Each has an eminent research tradition stretching back into the past, sometimes over many decades. Each too has leading international figures dedicated to extending the frontiers of their research.

You will find excellent libraries and laboratories; you will have the chance to attend advanced seminars and symposia; you will be able to discuss your work with your peers and with many of the world's top researchers.

Your research programme is designed to allow you to make your own individual contribution to this exciting mosaic of new ideas and new techniques, to develop your own knowledge and experience and to lay the foundation of a successful career whether inside or outside the academic world.

Doctoral research today involves not simply very specialist knowledge and research in your chosen area but also the acquisition of a wide range of skills and experience which will equip you for the future. The research training programmes that we are constructing in the University of Manchester are amongst the most innovative anywhere in the UK, and we look to every new generation of researchers to help us develop and improve those programmes.
