Introduction

Welcome to the Faculty of Humanities Researcher Development Programme for Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs). The programme has been created to reflect the changing needs of researchers across the duration of a research programme and aims to meet the demands of full-time, part-time, international and distance learners through flexible delivery. Every course has been mapped according to the Researcher Development Framework (RDF) and courses are structured so that researchers can plan a personal research development programme and document their progress by using the Vitae Online CPD tool.

Postgraduate Researcher Development Guide 2011/12

A pdf version of this year's Postgraduate Researcher Development guide.

The Researcher Development Framework

The Researcher Development Framework (RDF) is a professional development tool, developed by Vitae, to help researchers at all stages of their careers to understand the knowledge, attributes and skills required to succeed as a professional researcher in Higher Education or beyond. Empirical data, collected from interviews with researchers, underpins the RDF, and it therefore offers a real insight into what professional researchers and academics believe is needed to progress in a research career. Please use the tabs on the left hand side to explore the RDF further and to find out how to use the Vitae Online CPD tool to reflect upon and document progress.

Training calendar

The training calendar provides an up-to-date schedule of workshops and events that are administered through eProg, the online booking system. The calendar can be used to explore forthcoming workshops on a month-by-month basis. Please note that workshops only appear on the calendar one semester at a time. Workshops can be booked by clicking on the relevant title link, logging into eProg and following the booking procedure.

The PGR Resources section houses various resources and training material from workshops and events that are considered useful to researchers at all stages in their research programme. The resources section contains videos, links and other useful information. If you have suggestions for further resources please contact humanities-training@manchester.ac.uk.
