Researcher Development @ the Faculty of Humanities

Undergraduate

The PhD Experience

What is my PhD and what can I expect?

A PhD is very different from undergraduate or masters study. It is a period of individual study where you get the opportunity to discuss and share your ideas with your supervisory team and fellow researchers.

The PhD can be an emotional experience and it is normal to feel both positive and negative emotions towards your PhD. At times you may feel anxious about your PhD and not sure where to turn.

This site may be useful in providing you with other student's experiences, information and resources that link to help and support that is available across the University.

Induction

It is important that PGRs take advantage of the induction activities available within each School and across the Faculty of Humanities. Our induction resources provide all the information you need about opportunities available across the Humanities, and also where to go to seek help, support and advice.

How to get your PhD: a guide for students

This booklet is about successfully navigating the PhD process, from approaching and structuring your work to the thesis submission and the viva.

Tips are also included on planning life outside and after your PhD.
