Multicultural Democracy and Immigrants Social Capital in Europe: Participation, Organisational Networks, and Public Policies at the Local Level.

The Institute for Social Change, alongside the LOCALMULTIDEM project consortium (6th Framework Programme of the EC) and the School of Social Sciences, are hosting a symposium related to the project 'Multicultural democracy and immigrants' social capital in Europe.
The project is coordinated by Dr Laura Morales, a research fellow at the Institute for Social Change.
The project includes partners from six European countries, and studies migrants’ social capital and political integration in six European cities: Budapest, London, Lyon, Madrid, Milan and Zurich. Additionally, this project is coordinated with other two European teams that have done an equivalent study in Sweden and Norway. The symposium is open to all interested members of the public, the members of the LOCALMULTIDEM project will present a summary of the main results of the project.

The main purpose is to disseminate broadly the core findings of the project, this will consist of the results of a survey to 1,200 individuals, around 300 of autochthonous background, and the remaining 900 of migrant background of three different ethnic/national groups – as well as the results of a study of migrants’ associations, in each of the cities.
