The Institute for Social ChangeISC offers an outstanding environment for postgraduate study. Sociological research at the University of Manchester was ranked joint first in the 2008 UK Research Assessment Exercise, producing the highest proportion of ‘world leading’ research of any UK institution. The MSc in Social Change is an ideal foundation for applying for a fully-funded PhD scholarship from ISC(we are part of the ESRC’s North West Doctoral Training Centre.) In recent years our MSc graduates have been highly successful in securing these scholarships, which provide funding for students to pursue doctoral level research on a topic of their choosing. |

Bursaries The Institute for Social Change (ISC) is offering up to three bursaries of £1,000 for outstanding applicants to the MSc in Social Change programme beginning the course in September 2012. Apply before April 30th 2012 to be considered for an “outstanding applicant” studentship worth £1,000 off the course fees. Applications received after this date will be considered for admission but not funding.

Admissions and FeesThe MSc can be completed full-time (one year) or part-time (two years). Course fees are £5,000 for UK/EU students, £12,300 for others. Applicants for direct entry to the MSc should hold or expect to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in a Social Science subject (with good grades, e.g. UK 2:1, US GPA 3.3, Chinese GPA 2.8) and be able to demonstrate a good standard of spoken and written English. Candidates with lower grades (e.g. a UK 2:2) or without a social science background may initially be offered a place on the Postgraduate Diploma course, with upgrade to MSc possible after satisfactory progress.
