As in previous years the 2011 SCHMi Summer workshop was a tremendous success, the workshop, chaired by Mary Waters, examined the challenges posed by economic hard times including coping with immigration and immigrant integration, social and economic inequality and insecurity, and political polarization. The workshop brought together twenty students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds with faculty from Harvard University and the University of Manchester as well as other leading experts in academia and government to discuss the unfolding consequences of global recession in Britain, the United States, and beyond.
In addition to 20 graduate students from the UK, US and other European countries, participants included over twenty invited faculty, all of whom are internationally renowned researchers.
