Numeracy

numeracy

Many students struggle with the maths aspect of their course. This is often due to not having done any mathematics since their GCSEs. Grasp the nettle and keep on top of your mathematics workload — don't be tempted to leave revision of this subject area until the examination period.

There are many resources available to help you bridge the gap between GCSE and undergraduate or postgraduate mathematics. Mathematics is a skill that you can develop by practice; the more you practice the more confident you become.

TheLearnHigher Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning has collated excellent online resources to support students' learning development in 20 areas, including numeracy, maths and statistics.

LearnHigher University Workbooklets have been developed by staff at Brunel University so that you can download them and use them for independent study. Each booklet covers a particular area of mathematics and all follow a similar structure. The topics are:

  1. Algebra 1
  2. Algebra 2
  3. Introduction to Differentiation
  4. Differentiation - the rules
  5. Integration - the basics
