How do our students learn about what we are looking for when we mark assignments? How do we ensure that they engage with the marking criteria and the marking process?

This session explores one way in which we have tried to get students to understand marking using peer assessment and a mark negotiation process. It explores the opportunities presented by the process but also some of the challenges we have encountered in trying to engage with students in this way.

Benefits:

  • Peer assessment encourages self reflection
  • Students learn from engaging with marking criteria
  • Students understanding of the process of marking and relative weightings is improved
