The Humanities eLearning team is here to help you!

The elearning technologists and support officers here provide advice, guidance and demonstrations to academic staff on the opportunities for using technology in teaching, learning and assessment.

Furthermore, we provide support to academic staff on the use of the Blackboard.

  • Cath Dyson

    Cath has been involved in Further and Higher Education as a lecturer, tutor, trainer and External Examiner for nearly 18 years. In this time she has been involved in the development and delivery of learning opportunities both face to face and online. She has been involved in the development eLearning strategy, supporting the integration of eLearning into Undergraduate provision and supporting colleagues in developing the required skills to use a Virtual Learning Environment to deliver teaching and learning.

    She has been involved in using technology to deliver teaching and learning and in supporting others to use technology and develop IT skills. Cath has worked at the University since 2004 when she joined the then Faculty of Arts as a Training Officer. Cath took up the position of eLearning Manager in April 2008.

    Cath has MEd in Adult and Continuing Education and Training from the University of Manchester and a PGC in Higher Education Practice from the University of Bradford.

  • Cath Booth

    Cath Booth has a background in print and web production, commercially and as a lecturer, including a five year stint at the London College of Printing.

    She has worked with online and blended learning programmes since 2000, as an associate lecturer at the Open University in the Faculty of Mathematics, Computing and Technology, and is interested in how online assessment and feedback can support student learning.

    Cath initially joined the Faculty of Humanities eLearning team in December 2006 as project worker for an MBS led Masters programme; the contract was subsequently extended by MBS to work on the blended learning requirements of the PGDip/MSc Health and Public Leadership programme. She returned to the Faculty of Humanities team in 2008-9.

    Cath's approach is firmly from the craft tradition: expertise in high end practical solutions, an integration of theory and practice, art and science. She is passionate about design structure, imaging and typography (and digging her allotment)!

  • Jonny Crook

    Jonny CrookeLearning technologist

    Jonny has been working in the design and development of eLearning resources for the past 8 years. He graduated from York St John University with a BA (Hons) in Art & Design. He worked for a learning technology company in York before moving to London to work for Ealing, Hammersmith & West London College. He is interested in creating innovative interactive resources and using new technologies in education.

    Jonny enjoys travelling and briefly worked voluntarily for a charity in Cambodia, providing IT support.

    He joined the Humanities eLearning team as a Learning Technologist in March 2009.

  • Roger Hewitt

    Roger has been involved in eLearning at the University of Manchester for more than ten years, initially in the Faculty of Arts. He has an interest in student support through pre-arrival, mentoring and self-study schemes. He is also developing and delivering staff training within the Faculty of Humanities and as part of a University wide team.

    Roger is a member of the Academic Support Group of the Universities and Colleges Information Systems Association (UCISA). He is a contributor to the series of surveys of technology enhanced learning undertaken by UCISA and supported by JISC.

    Roger has a PGCE and is about to begin the accreditation process towards CMALT.

  • Helen Perkins

    Helen PerkinseLearning technologist

    Helen has worked in Further and Higher Education for the last 10 years in a variety of roles including lecturing in FE, working as an IT Trainer and as an eLearning Technologist. She moved to Manchester in 2004 and worked as a Learning Technologist whilst completing a PGCE in Post-Compulsory Education. Helen works in the team on a part-time basis and concentrates on developing and delivering eLearning related training.

    Helen recently achieved CMALT status, submitting a portfolio of work for peer review. She is currently on maternity leave, due to return in summer 2010.

  • Phil Styles

    Phil StyleseLearning support officer

    Phil joined the Humanities eLearning team as eLearning support officer in October 2008. His main roles see him support academics and team colleagues in multimedia production, web development and application programming.

    Having worked as a VLE administrator and multimedia in a secondary school and having completed two online data projects for the University's Drama department, Phil now enjoys working to help colleagues get the most out of technology in learning.

  • Anna Verges

    Anna joined the Humanities eLearning team at the University of Manchester in 2008. She obtained her PhD at the University of Edinburgh in 2000 on European Union policy and Law, and carried out research at both academic and policy institutions where she developed an interest in communications and the web.

    She has an special interest in eAssessment and ePedagogy.
