Rome field trip

Over Easter 2019, a bleary-eyed group made up of members of the Classics and Ancient History Society met at Manchester Airport for an early flight to Rome.
I’d been on the trip in the first year and was really excited to go back - it’s a really fun way to meet new people from all years of study.
Being able to visit museums and sites that have been relevant to my degree was both interesting and a much-needed break from dissertation work.
Spending the evenings as a group, whether out for dinner and drinks or seeing the Colosseum lit up against a dark sky was one of my favourite parts of the trip too, as well as stumbling across places I wouldn’t have initially planned to visit such as the Palazzo Barberini.
Some of my favourite memories and friendships from my time as an undergraduate have been made on the trips we’ve been able to go on and this year’s Rome trip was a perfect way to feel like a part of the Classics community whilst seeing elements of my degree brought to life.
Manchester is an amazing city. I’ve met some really wonderful people on my course, the support I have received from staff has been incredible, the fieldwork is great experience and fun, and I can now call myself an archaeologist.
