Applications

A PhD is very different from any other academic course, and applying for one takes significant time and planning.

There are several things you need to consider:

  • Application processes - If you’re considering several universities, processes and timelines can vary. It’s important to know what you’ll be expected to produce for each application you submit so that you can be well-prepared and proactive.
  • Research interests - What are your ideas and how can you develop these into a proposal? Are there any projects available that align with your interests?
  • Deadlines - When are they? How much time do you need to prepare?
  • Supervisors - Whose research are you interested in? How will you approach them?
  • Funding - Will you be self-funding or applying for a studentship, scholarship or award? What are your options?

The earlier you begin considering these things the better. You’ll have more time to strengthen your proposal, develop relationships with potential supervisors and get that much-needed support and guidance throughout the application process.
