Centre for Economic Cultures
The Centre for Economic Cultures is home to a diverse, interdisciplinary community of scholars at The University of Manchester whose research cuts across and combines methodologies to tackle fundamental questions about how people and society interact with the economy.
The Centre is unique in that our engagement with major economic questions is behavioural, emotional, social - and altogether human. This broad scope facilitates work at the Centre which engages with some of the most important themes in the world today, including global inequalities, sustainable futures and the vital role of creative industries.
To do so, our members from across the university collaborate on projects that combine Manchester’s pioneering contributions to economic cultures and social responsibility, employing the critical perspectives and tools of the humanities and social sciences together to generate unique and far-reaching analyses of economic life.
Through networking events, collaborative activities and support for members from PhD students to professors, the Centre aims to drive forward interdisciplinary new scholarship, develop far ranging public engagement activities, and facilitate research impact that makes a positive contribution to meeting the economic challenges of the twenty-first century.
