You can choose from a range of Art History courses, including BA History of Art, as well as joint honours options such as Art History and English Literature or Art History and History. You do not need to have studied Art or Art History before applying; we welcome applicants who can demonstrate an active interest in the subject.

An Art History degree focuses on understanding, interpreting, and analysing art and visual culture, and their historical and social contexts.
At Manchester, you will explore art from the Medieval period to the present day, including Medieval, Renaissance, Modern, Contemporary and global art. You will develop skills in critical analysis, research and academic writing, with opportunities for gallery-based teaching and practical experience in museums and galleries.
