British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships
The British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship is a three-year award made to an annual cohort of outstanding early career researchers in the humanities or social sciences.
The Music Department at the University of Manchester invites expressions of interest from prospective applicants to the British Academy's Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme.
The next call is expected to be released in early summer 2027. Specific dates relating to the application process will be posted here when available. Open calls will also be circulated via the listservs of Musicology-All and BFE (British Forum for Ethnomusicology).

Applicants are expected to have successfully passed their PhD viva voce examination within three years of the deadline specified by the British Academy.
Applicants must be a UK or EEA national or have completed a doctorate at a UK university. Any applicant who does not fall into one of these categories must demonstrate a strong prior association with the UK academic community, for example temporary employment (longer than twelve months) at a UK university.
Candidates who have been unsuccessful in a previous round will require an invitation from the British Academy in order to resubmit.

During the application window, applicants who wish to apply through the Department of Music are advised to make contact with their proposed mentor as early as possible before submitting their proposal, which should then be completed with additional input from the mentor.
Outline proposals submitted by our initial deadline are in the first instance subject to an internal competition within Music and the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures.
Those applicants who are successful at this stage will receive specialist support to complete the full online application before the British Academy’s final submission deadline.
