A nine-country doctoral network advancing research, training, and evidence-based innovation on ageing in place

Background to the network

HOMeAGE, 'Advancing Research and Training on Ageing, Place and Home', is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network bringing together leading research units, major intergovernmental organisations, international civil society actors, and governmental and non-governmental organisations across nine countries.

The network delivers an interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and international programme of doctoral training and research. It aims to develop future research leaders and advance evidence-based innovation on ageing in place. Its 12 Doctoral Researchers conduct individual research projects while taking part in a 36-month network-wide training programme, public engagement activities, and short-term secondments with partner organisations.

HOMeAGE addresses three interconnected challenges: needs and systems; home and belonging; and rights and voice.

Manchester and MUARG’s role

The Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group (MUARG) and is involved in the HOMeAGE network. MUARG Director Professor Tine Buffel is the main supervisor for Doctoral Researcher Pippa Winship, whose research forms part of the network’s Rights and Voice theme.

Pippa’s project examines ageing in place in neighbourhoods undergoing urban regeneration. It investigates:

  1. experiences of ageing in place among diverse groups, including long-term residents and migrants;
  2. whether regeneration policies reflect the diversity of ageing populations; and
  3. how co-production and age-friendly initiatives can support more inclusive decisions about urban development.
