UK-China Humanities Alliance (UKCHA)

About the alliance

  • The UK-China Humanities Alliance (UKCHA) was established in 2016.
  • The alliance is dedicated to promoting cross-cultural dialogue and collaborative research in the humanities between Chinese and UK universities.
  • There are eight Chinese member institutions and ten UK member institutions.

The UK China Humanities Alliance for Higher Education (UKCHA) is a unique forum of ten British and seven Chinese universities with outstanding reputations in the Arts and Humanities.

The Secretariat is housed at the Institute for World Literatures and Cultures (IWLC), Tsinghua University where the Dean of IWLC, Prof YAN Haiping, serves as the Director of the Executive Council and the Secretary-General and Prof YANG Bin, Vice President of Tsinghua University, serves as the Chair of the Alliance.

The University of Manchester now holds the leadership of the UK Coordinating Team. The UKCHA arranges an annual conference, held alternately in the UK and China (to be hosted by SOAS University of London in 2026), to bring together the member institutions and encourage collaboration in research and teaching.

In 2018, the UKCHA launched the China-UK Higher Education Young Talent Alliance (HEYTA), connecting university students from the UK and China.

The annual HEYTA conference gives humanities students the opportunity to engage with an international community and engage in a global dialogue around the humanities. Information for the next HEYTA Conference will be released shortly.
