Types of programmes

A PhD, or Doctor of Philosophy, is a research degree that typically takes three to four years to complete. You'll carry out supervised research that must be original and demonstrate independent, critical judgement. Your findings will need to make a meaningful contribution to knowledge.

The DCounsPsych is a Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. This three-year programme combines academic study and professional training, and you'll need to meet both academic and practice-based entry requirements to apply.

The DEdChPsy is a Professional Doctorate in Educational and Child Psychology. This three-year programme requires you to meet both academic and practice-based entry requirements to apply.

MRes is a Master’s of Research degree lasting one year. They are available in Humanities as:

  • MRes Criminology
  • MRes Management
