AMBS 1+4 Home Studentships

Pursue combined Master’s and PhD study in Alliance Manchester Business School

This studentship has been created as a dedicated funding stream to support talented undergraduate Home students into postgraduate research study. By providing this opportunity for Home students to undertake fully-funded Masters’s and PhD study together (1+4), we not only contribute to the university's vision of addressing global challenges through interdisciplinary research and education but also cultivate a dynamic academic community enriched by diverse perspectives.

  • Full tuition fees (Master’s and PhD)
  • Annual UKRI maintenance stipend - £19,237 p/a (Master’s and PhD)
  • Doctoral training support grant (PhD-only)

How to be considered

In order to be considered for this studentship you must meet this criteria:

  • Be a UK-domiciled applicant who qualifies for home fee status.
  • Hold (or expect to achieve) a First Class or 2:1 UK honours degree (or equivalent).
  • Be able to demonstrate potential for academic research and meaningful contribution to their chosen field and the thematic priorities of Alliance MBS. This may include undergraduate projects, placements, internships, contributions to publications/articles, promoting research to a wider audience, prizes for previous work or setting up collaborations with other groups.

1. Choose your PhD programme in AMBS.

2. Prepare a research proposal.

  • Guidance on preparing a research proposal can be found on the Alliance Manchester Business School website.

3. Find your supervisor:

  • You can see the collective supervisory interests of staff in AMBS by looking at this information.
  • You may also wish to look at our online guide ‘Find a supervisor’. 

4. Complete your application prior to the advertised funding deadline (see key dates below). Specify in the funding section of your PhD application form that you wish to be considered for the 1+4 AMBS Home Studentship.

5. Nomination of master's degree. If successful for your formal academic offer, your lead supervisor will nominate the master's programme. Eligible candidates will be put forward to the final interview for the award with the research division coordinator. 

Application Deadline – 15 March 2025

Receive Formal Offer – 30 April 2025

Funding Interview Decisions – 23 May 2025
