Fully-funded PhD study in the Alliance Manchester Business School open to all nationalities.

Funding description

Our AMBS PhD studentship is open to all nationalities to help support our most exceptional applicants.

Research in our Alliance Manchester Business School is separated into four divisions:

  • Accounting and Finance,
  • Innovation Management Policy,
  • Management Sciences and Marketing,
  • People, Management and Organisations.

Key features of this studentship

  • Open across all research disciplines in Alliance Manchester Business School.
  • Full PhD tuition fees for 4 years (full-time or part-time).
  • Annual UKRI maintenance stipend - (this was £20,780 p/a 2025/26).
  • Doctoral training support grant.

This funding is available to all nationalities.  

In order to be considered for this studentship you must meet this criteria:

  • Bachelor's (Honours) degree at 2:1 or above (or overseas equivalent),
  • Master's degree in a relevant cognate subject - normally with an overall average of 70% or above (or overseas equivalent).

Please note this funding is not available to current PhD students.

  1. Prepare a research proposal:

  1. Find your supervisor:
  • You can see the collective supervisory interests of staff in AMBS by looking at this information.

  1. Complete your application prior to the advertised funding deadline (see key dates below) with all necessary supporting documents (How to apply). Specify in the funding section of your PhD application form (Section 9) that you wish to be considered for the AMBS School Studentship.

Please note that there is no separate funding application form for this award. All decisions are based on the online application and supporting documents. If you are shortlisted for an award, you will be invited to attend a funding interview.

You may be asked to prepare a presentation on your proposed research. The interview panel will consist of a Division Co-ordinator and an independent interviewer.

Successful candidates will be chosen on the basis of:

  • Performance in interview
  • Academic merit and preparedness for research
  • Quality and feasibility of research proposal
  • Consideration of ethical responsibility

 

This award will cover:

  • Fees (Home or International) for 4 years.
  • Stipend (maintenance) for 4 years (this was £20,780 p/a 2025/26).
  • A research training support grant.

This award does not cover:

  • Any costs incurred through a visa application (including the immigration health surcharge).
  • Any costs incurred through travel or relocation.

Offers of funding are not deferrable. If you cannot start your programme by the date mentioned in your studentship offer letter, the award will be withdrawn. You are permitted to re-apply in future.
