What is a Discover Day?
Discover Days are free, on-campus events for Year 12 students to explore the subject areas they are interested in. Instead of just reading about a degree, you will spend the day experiencing it.
You’ll take part in subject taster sessions, meet our students and academics, and see our facilities first-hand. It is a practical way to get a feel for student life at Manchester and decide if a particular course is right for you.

Frequently asked questions
What should I wear?
There is no formal dress code.
You will be moving around our campus, so we recommend wearing comfortable clothes and shoes and to come prepared for the weather.
How do I get there?
Full building details will be provided in your booking confirmation. Find out more information about getting to our campus.
Am I eligible for the travel bursary?
You are eligible for the travel bursary if you meet at least one of the following criteria: if you are currently or have previously been in receipt of free school meals; are currently in receipt of the 16-19 bursary; are currently enrolled on the Manchester Access Programme (MAP); are care-experienced or have refugee status.
Further information on how to receive this support will be given on receipt of your booking.
Can parents, carers or teachers come?
We encourage students to attend independently to get a true feel for the university experience and to meet other prospective students. However, we understand that some students may prefer to have somebody with them. If having a supporter present would make the difference in you being able to attend, they are welcome to join. If teachers would like to book group places, please email: hums-outreach@manchester.ac.uk.
Will I get to see accommodation?
We do not offer accommodation tours as part of Discover Days. If you wish to see accommodation, we recommend attending one of our University-wide open days.
Can I use this in my personal statement?
Yes, attending a Discover Day is a great example of super-curricular activity. In your personal statement, you can talk about the specific topics covered in the taster sessions and what you learned about the subject at university level.
