Join us for our Senior Seminar Series exploring contemporary ethical, legal and policy challenges. Our seminars bring together researchers, students, practitioners and invited speakers to share research and engage in discussion.

The Drugs That Came in From the Cold: Reflections on the UK's Emerging Regulatory Landscape for Psychedelic Therapies

After decades of prohibition, psychedelics are once again being explored as potential therapeutic tools in psychiatry and mental healthcare. However, their renewed promise is emerging within a highly restrictive UK legal and regulatory framework.

Drawing on interviews with researchers, clinicians, policy actors and people with lived experience, this seminar examines the regulatory uncertainty, competing understandings of risk and different possible futures for psychedelic therapies.

Reproductive Harm: The Asymmetry of Regulation and Redress in Assisted Reproduction

  • Wednesday, 2 December 2026, 2pm (UK time)
  • Professor Amel Alghrani (University of Liverpool)
  • In person - University of Manchester

Assisted reproduction is subject to detailed legal regulation concerning licensing, consent, storage and traceability. Yet when these safeguards fail, those affected must largely turn to general areas of private law to seek redress.

This seminar examines the resulting asymmetry between the regulation of assisted reproduction before harm occurs and the remedies available afterwards, arguing for a more coherent model of reproductive accountability.

Registration: contact Rebecca.Bennett@manchester.ac.uk for registration and venue details.

All are welcome. Further CSEP Senior Seminars will be announced for 2027.
