Booking policies
Read our booking conditions, course change and refund policies before applying.
These explain how places are allocated, when you can change or withdraw from a course, and when refunds may be available.
Booking conditions
Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Please apply as early as possible to help secure a place on your chosen course.
Your place is only guaranteed once:
- your application has been received;
- your fees or credits have been processed; and
- you've received confirmation from the LEAP Office.
Changing your course
Credited students
You may request a change of course provided you meet the enrolment requirements and places are available.
Requests must be submitted in writing by:
Full-year courses

Semester-only courses
- Semester 1: Friday 2 October 2026, 5pm
- Semester 2: Friday 5 February 2027, 5pm
Credited students should also note the course unit selection deadlines set by their Home School. Except in exceptional circumstances, it isn't possible to change your course unit to a higher or lower level after these deadlines have passed.
Members of the public and non-credited students
You may request a course change or withdraw from your course, provided you meet the enrolment requirements and places are available.
Requests must be submitted in writing by:
Full-year courses
- Friday 9 October 2026, 5pm
Semester-only courses

Students paying for a full-year course who decide not to continue into Semester 2 may be eligible for a refund of Semester 2 fees if the request is received by:
- Friday 12 February 2027, 5pm
Refunds won't be provided after this deadline.
Students who withdraw from a full-year course won't be able to rejoin in a later year. If they wish to study with LEAP again, they'll need to submit a new application, pay the full course fee and begin in September of that academic year.
Unless the course change is due to a timetable clash, all refunds are subject to a £30 administration fee.
Requests for course changes or refunds should be emailed to leap@manchester.ac.uk.
Cancelled lessons
There are no refunds for cancelled lessons.
Lessons cancelled because of staff sickness will normally be rearranged. We'll provide as much notice as possible and arrange an alternative teaching time where we can.
Lessons cancelled because of industrial action won't be refunded. Please refer to the University's Strike FAQs for the latest information.
Assessment is compulsory for credited students.
For members of the public, University staff and non-credited students, assessment isn't compulsory.
However, it's strongly recommended because it:
- helps monitor your progress throughout the course;
- is necessary if you wish to progress to the next language level; and
- makes you eligible for a LEAP course certificate if you achieve a 40% pass mark.
