Social Statistics

Data skills for a changing world

Understanding society starts with understanding data.

At Manchester, Social Statistics goes beyond the numbers. You’ll work with real data to explore issues like inequality, public policy and human behaviour, using tools such as R, Python and SPSS to build a deeper understanding of social change.

Within a uniquely interdisciplinary department, you’ll develop in demand skills in analysis and decision making, studying in a city shaped by innovation.

Hear from our students on why they study Social Statistics at Manchester.

What our students say

Arushi Saxena, BAEcon Economics and Data Analytics

"Studying Data Analytics at The University of Manchester has been an incredibly rewarding challenge.

I’ve loved learning how to transform complex datasets into meaningful stories using tools like R and Excel to better understand real-world economic trends.

Beyond the academics, Manchester is such a vibrant, welcoming city, there is a unique energy here and so many opportunities to get involved in student life and leadership that make the experience truly complete."
