Modern Languages

Learning languages in one of Europe’s most diverse cities

Manchester is an exceptionally linguistically and culturally diverse city, making it a perfect place to study a language

We’ll help you master your chosen language, while developing a deep knowledge of the cultures associated with it. In the Residence Abroad year, you’ll live in a country where your chosen language is spoken.

Our languages courses can be studied by themselves, or alongside a wide range of complementary subjects on a joint honours course.

What our students say

Olaniran, Modern Language and Business Management (Japanese)

“I decided to combine my business degree with a language because I believe that pairing business with a language adds significant value to my degree, as it allows me to develop a more unique and versatile skill set.”

Anita, studies Film and Spanish

“My course has helped me improve my professional working level of Spanish, so that I can apply to a postgraduate study in the field of Film Studies at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the city I spent my third year studying abroad in.”

Anita Leech

Emmanuel, studies Politics and French

“My favourite thing about Manchester is that the students feel like family and there’s so much to do. I’m a part of many societies, particularly the stand-up comedy society and multiple sports teams.”
